Muscle Building with Protein

Bloged in Sports Nutrition by john Wednesday May 13, 2009

MMA training requires an abundance of protein as does muscle building itself. Protein is a very important aspect of muscle building because protein is comprised of amino acids which are the building blocks of muscle. There are many different ways to get the protein you need, but rest assured, all MMA fighters and anyone hoping to build muscle needs protein because muscle cannot be built without protein.

Experts have labeled protein as the single most important aspect of an MMA training regimen. Other supplements that are important to fighters include Fish Oil, Multi-Vitamin, NO2, Glucosamine (for joints), glutamine, and calcium.

UFC Undisputed Video Game Set For Release

Bloged in Sports Nutrition by john Wednesday May 13, 2009

UFC Undisputed 2009 is set to hit stores in the United States next Tuesday, May 19th. Undisputed will be available on both XBOX 360 and PlayStation 3. Undisputed is the first UFC video game to come out since 2004’s UFC: Sudden Impact.

Undisputed is being touted as one of the most realistic fight games ever created, which has MMA fans and MMA fighters around the United States eagerly awaiting it’s release. Mixed martial arts has always been difficult to duplicate into a video game due to the diverse nature of the sport. Because the fight styles involves an array of techniques and fighters can be found standing up, in the air, and on the ground, developers have always had a tough time with and largely stayed away from taking on the challenge, which adds to the hype surrounding the release of UFC 2009: Undisputed.

Pre orders have been going on for month’s and can be found at MMA Discount at the link below.

MMA Diet, Acid Alkaline

Bloged in Sports Nutrition by john Monday April 27, 2009

MMA Diets are largely focused on fat burning and endurance building. The fact is that the leaner and better-conditioned an MMA athlete is, the more likely he or she is to be able to go the distance and maintain stamina throughout the entirety of an intense 3 to 5 round competition. MMA nutrition is just as essential as learning and practicing the fighting techniques themselves.

Acid Alkaline diets have been advocated by many MMA fighters (like Randy Couture) and other professionals as one of the best ways to burn fat and keep energy levels high. The basis of Acid Alkaline diets relies on the notion that all the foods we eat release either acid or alkaline into the bloodstream during digestion. An abundance of acid in the bloodstream leads to the decrease of alkaline substances like calcium, potassium, and magnesium - which is obviously not the goal of any MMA nutrition plan.

Alkaline is great for the body, but most of the normal foods we eat on a day to day basis are more acidic than alkaline. Foods like meat, eggs, wheat, white rice, potatos, grains, hard cheese, whey protein powder, beef, and oats are examples of foods that are not alkaline, but acidic.

Many experts say the goal should be to consume only 20% acidic foods and 80% alkaline foods to keep your Acid Alkaline balance in check. When you think alkaline foods, think greens. There are many alkaline foods such as sea vegetables, parsley, barley grass, cucumber, broccoli sprouts, sesame seeds, olive oil, cocunut oil, almonds, pumpkin seeds, celery, spinach, dried figs, raisins, carrots, green beans, and lima beans.

The primary reason alkaline is important for those training MMA is that the training itself is acidic. Pushing your body to the limits an MMA athlete must causes a release of acid into the body, thus making the Acid Alkaline balance that much more important to someone who trains MMA.

TUF: United States VS United Kingdom

Bloged in Sports Nutrition by john Thursday April 9, 2009

The Ultimate Fighter TV series, for the first time in it’s 5 year history, will pit one country versus another. Typically a competition between 2 teams made up of aspiring UFC fighters fighting to win a six figure contract with the UFC, the standard 2 teams per season have always been a mix of fighters from various countries (although primarily American) but never matched up against one another based on nationality.

This move sparks a lot of interest for the SpikeTV series, and has the potential to create even more growth for the sport that has surged into mainstream popularity in the United States, Europe, and elsewhere in the world within the last few year. UFC fighter and ‘Coach’ of the UK TUF Team believes this match up between the two countries is likely to create not only more MMA fans, but on a larger scale, more mixed martial artists in both the United States and United Kingdom.

Even during these uncertain financial times the UFC is a thriving and growing business. MMA companies in general have not noticed the collosal losses that many industries have faced. Smart moves like this one by the UFC will no doubt keep the MMA industry growing for the short term.

MMA Diet: An Underestimated Facet of Mixed Martial Arts

Bloged in Sports Nutrition by john Tuesday April 7, 2009

MMA Diets have not been given as much attention up to this point in history as have almost all other sports like bodybuilding, track and field, football, soccer, etc. The obvious reason for this is that mixed martial arts has only within the last 5-10 years gained much popularity in relation to those more traditional sports. As it turns out there are now companies focusing on MMA fighter diets, MMA nutrition, and MMA supplements due to the recent craze of MMA.

Diet for MMA is a facet of mixed martial arts training that is equally as important as learning and practicing the MMA techniques themselves. If a fighter does not prepare himself or herself for training or competition by putting the best MMA nutrition into his body, he or she will not perform at optimum levels and will therefore not make the most of the training session or competition.

MMA diet plans are available in many places now, especially online. The best way to supplement your MMA training with an MMA nutrition plan is to consult a successful MMA coach or MMA athlete. Make sure you research and verify the information your getting is legit before you start putting anything into your body. The best way to do that is to take advice only from the official websites of the best MMA fighters and coaches in mixed martial arts.
